We caught up for a five minute chat with Moira Angus from Moira J Floristry to find out what she loves the most about being a North East wedding supplier…

Moira, how did you get in to the wedding industry?

"Almost 30 years ago I decided to make my own wedding flowers, which is never a good idea! They weren't great but I enjoyed the experience so much that I asked the local florist shop if I could come in and learn/sweep up/make tea for free. They actually gave me a job straight away and sent me to college for three years to get qualified. I've worked in the wedding industry ever since, apart from a small break to help my sister-in-law with her business."

What do you love the most about your job?
"It goes without saying that I love all flowers with a passion. The creative side and when I get free rein to design something, is definitely the best part of my career."

And what do you love the most about living in the North East?
"Ooh, that would be a toss up between the scenery and the people! Parts of the North East are absolutely stunning and the people are so friendly. I love it all!"

Why pick you for wedding flowers?
"Apart from almost 30 years in the business – which is a lot of weddings! – I like to think that my brides get a really personal service from me. I strive to understand the whole vision for their weddings, not just my part in it, and design their flowers accordingly. I love to think outside the box and keep my finger on the pulse of new trends and techniques."

What are the trends for wedding flowers for 2019?
"I'm thinking very botanical. Foliage will be heavy and perhaps less flowery. Very green and fresh, with lots of floral installations such as hanging pieces, arches and hoops. I'd personally love to see brides going back to wearing flower crowns for a more natural, bohemian look, too. The Pantone colour of the year is Living Coral, so perhaps fresh, bright corals and oranges will feature as well. I hope so!"
