Escape from it all and Linden Hall Hotel
Northumberland's Linden Hall Hotel has seen a substantial rise in elopement weddings in the past months, as more couples opt for a ceremony for just the two of them. Wedding and special events planner Louise McMaster believes it's the desire to avoid family drama and save on costs that's driving the trend. "Covid changed the way we think about weddings, and even though normality has resumed, people's eyes were opened to the romance of a small affair," she says. "I've never seen this level of elopement weddings – it's definitely a big trend of the summer."

Stars of North East's tourism industry shine
Four North East tourism businesses have been recognised at the national tourism awards. Serenity Farne Island Boat Tours and Kidlandlee Holiday Cottages were presented Gold awards, Silver went to Langley Castle Hotel and Rockliffe Hall Hotel, Golf & Spa Resort was awarded a Bronze in the prestigious national finals. The four finalists were selected after winning Gold at the North East England Tourism Awards. In the Experience of the Year category, the Grey Seal and Seabird Cruise by Serenity Farne Island Boat Tours, Northumberland took home the Gold Award. They were competing against Peak District Walking Experience, GuidedWalks, and Make Your Own Gin Experience, Shed 1 Gin Distillery, Cumbria.
