Spotlight on… North East Wedding Magician Tim Lichfield

After wedding entertainment to truly wow your guests? We sat down with North East-based magician Tim Lichfield to find out how his career began…

Tim, what exactly do you do and what areas do you cover?
"I provide close-up magic and entertainment for weddings, corporate events and private parties. I am based in North Yorkshire, but work all over the UK."

How did you get in to the magician business?
"I first got into magic when I was seven years old – I was instantly hooked! For years, I performed only for close friends and then in 2016, I decided to take the plunge and make it my full-time business."

What do you love the most about your job?
"The best thing is, it doesn't feel like a job! I love to entertain and seeing people's reactions to my magic makes me smile. One of my favourite lines is, 'I don't like magic,' and after I perform, hearing that same spectator change their perspective of what magic is all about."

What's your best trick?
"Each effect I perform has to consist of three things: it has to be visual, fun and interactive. If it doesn't fit into those factors, then I won't perform it. I have a couple of favourites, but I can't give too much away!"

What do you love the most about living in the North East?
"How friendly everyone is. I moved to the North East around eight years ago and everyone I've met has been so welcoming."

Why pick you over anyone else?
"Even as a magician, I have witnessed some performers who only concentrate on the 'tricks'. I believe in creating moments, but with a rapport with my audience. I am warm, friendly and want everyone to enjoy the magic. It's not about me!"
