November/December 2018

It’s amazing how Mother Nature gets to work – before we know it, we’ve said goodbye to summer and are well and truly in the midst of autumn. There’s something truly romantic about the colder months. Nothing beats snuggling up on the sofa with your intended, flicking through your favourite wedding magazine – it’s this one, of course – to research your special day. You might even be planning a winter wedding, envisaging roaring log fires and faux-fur shawls while the snow creates a magical blanket on the venue’s lawn outside. I might not be able to guarantee a white wedding, however, I can showcase the region’s best venues, which look incredible in the colder months – just turn to p23 to find out more.

I’ve also been seriously busy on the shoot front, securing three exclusive collections for you to enjoy. Turn to page 14 for gorgeous beachside pictures (complete with resident alpacas!) at Barn on the Bay before flicking to p29 for a Jesmond Dene House shoot, courtesy of Middlesbrough-based bridal designer Kate Fearnley. Make sure you check out photographer Erika Tanith’s Doxford Hall spread on page 52 too – I was so impressed with the pictures, we used one as our cover shot! We’ve also got North East catering musts (p57), local fashion advice on dressing the bridal party (p65), hair and beauty tips (p82) and three reader weddings for you to enjoy. Don’t forget to enter our exclusive competitions too, from winning a bespoke veil and kids’ tipi hire (p13) to a romantic honeymoon in Tenerife (p103).

Enjoy planning the best day of your lives…

Bamburgh Castle

This magnificent castle stands proudly on a rocky outcrop, with breathtaking views across the beaches to the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne. Its King’s Hall space sits on the site of the original medieval hall, which dates back to the 15th-century. With a history going back 10,000 years, it provides a prestigious venue in which to celebrate your lifelong commitment.

Ceremonies take place on the Cross Hall, bathed in light from the windows and surrounded by works of art. Your reception can be held in the King’s Hall, with a capacity of 150, or the Keep, ideal for smaller parties of up to 20. The venue can also include a marquee on the green, which is set up at the foot of the castle. New for 2019 is the use of the South West Tower, which has two special rooms for the bride and her maids to get ready in.
