March/April 2024

Welcome to our March/April issue! I love this time of year partly because I adore spring weddings but also because of the new wedding dress collections. This issue is one of my favourites to write and I always get excited seeing the stunning gowns that are available in our lovely region.

I got married a few years ago, so I know how stressful finding the perfect dress can be. I had no idea what style I wanted, but my wonderful consultant helped me pick my dream A-line gown. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the amount of choice available, make sure you listen to your consultant. They have years of experience and have helped brides of every shape and size find their dream gown, so they will know what looks good on you even if you don’t yourself. Go to your appointment with a rough idea of what you like, but try to keep an open mind. On paper, it might not be what you want, but it might still be the one. If you’re not sure where to start, check out our fashion section for heaps of inspiration.

Happy planning!

Bamburgh Castle

With its sweeping sea views of the Northumberland coastline to one side and the splendour of the castle on the other, Bamburgh Castle truly is a place like no other to exchange vows, high above the beach. From its earliest beginnings, the castle’s breathtaking location overlooking the Northumberland coast has long captured hearts and given couples the chance to turn their dreams into reality. In Anglo-Saxon times, the 6th century King Æthelfrith named Bamburgh after his wife Bebba and as a demonstration of true love, the castle became Bebba’s Burgh.

More recently, Bamburgh captivated the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, who put his heart and soul into restoring the castle into the spectacular fortress it is today. It remains the home of the Armstrong family and the team there love to make your special day part of the castle’s ongoing story of romance, love, friends and family. From its elevated position high above the spectacular coast, this really is a wedding venue of dreams. Exchange vows and gather for drinks and speeches on the Battery Terrace, an incredible viewpoint with the Farne Islands and Holy Island beyond.

The King’s Hall is the castle’s showstopping centrepiece. Although majestic with its paintings, tinkling clocks, arching teak, and hammerbeam ceiling, The King’s Hall has a welcoming atmosphere and backdrop for your day. While this flexible space comfortably accommodates up to 140 guests, it lends itself perfectly for more intimate ceremonies and couple only weddings.

Alternatively, the atmospheric, stone-vaulted 12th-century Keep Hall is a fabulous space for smaller ceremonies up to 15 nearest and dearest.

Ceremonies are also licensed to take place on the Battery Terrace for outdoor weddings.

Carry on your celebrations in the Victorian Stables. This flexible indoor space inside the castle’s courtyard has been used for everything from champagne towers to pop-up vintage fish and chip shops and for musicians and DJs.

A wedding marquee on the Castle Green is a stunning way to celebrate your wedding in an exclusive location with the unforgettable setting of the castle illuminated above.

Bamburgh Castle’s packages include the use of the Philippa Tower. Named after Philippa of Hainault, Queen of England, who stayed at the castle in 1330 with her beloved husband Edward III. Containing two beautiful private rooms with direct access to the King’s Hall, it’s a magical place to prepare for your special day.

There is also the opportunity to book a stay in the castle’s self-catering apartments, The Neville Tower and Clock Tower.
