Couples looking for a wow factor honeymoon in 2021 should look no further than Australia. With its white sand beaches, incredible food and wine, wide open spaces, majestic outback and friendly locals, it's the perfect honeymoon destination for those wanting to do more than swing in a hammock for two weeks. This ocean-to-outback honeymoon itinerary is easy to do and can be scaled up or down to suit the budget. Adding a few days on in Sydney provides the perfect ending to an incredible adventure; and contrasts brilliantly with the first few days spent in the vineyard city of Adelaide...
Days one and two
Arrive into Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, and one of the world's best small cities. Spend a couple of days here enjoying brilliant laneway dining, the vibrant arts scene, gorgeous white sand beaches, its rich sporting heritage, and meeting some of Australia's friendliest locals. Indulge in a long lunch at Penfolds Magill Estate in the city itself – a winery which produces the world famous Penfolds Grange; tour the Adelaide Central Market, and relax after the flight on one of the city's beaches.
Days three and four
Pick up the hire car and drive 30 minutes to the Adelaide Hills – home to hipster wine makers, brilliant regional restaurants and the glorious Morialta Conservation Park. Enjoy bush walking as koalas snooze in trees overhead and kangaroos hop around against a backdrop of stunning gullies and waterfalls. A romantic picnic here with a hamper full of local produce is recommended. Stay for two nights at the gorgeous Mount Lofty House heritage property or in their new Sequoia Villas.
Drive north to the gorgeous Barossa wine region. Book into a cosy cottage situated on a vineyard and make the most of the opportunity to taste their wines as lunch is served overlooking the vines. Another stop over option is the stunning Clare Valley which is also on route to the outback.
Days six, seven and eight
Drive approximately four hours north to the majestic Flinders Ranges. Think red sand earth, huge blue skies and rich Aboriginal history. Check into a property with a swimming pool like the Eco Villas at Rawnsley Park Station. Spend two or three days exploring the rugged mountain ranges, gorges and amazing wildlife in the 95,000 hectare Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park. Hike, mountain bike, take a helicopter or scenic flight or join a 4WD tour to appreciate this very special corner of Oz. As the sun sets raise a glass of bubbly to toast your great decision to choose South Australia for a honeymoon!
Days nine to thirteen
Drive the five hours back to Adelaide, leave the car at the airport and fly over to Sydney. Spend your last five days exploring the delights of this iconic harbour city. Either fly straight back to the UK or work with your travel agent to arrange a stop over in Asia or the Middle East to extend the honeymoon.
A two-week honeymoon including international flights into Adelaide and out of Sydney from the UK, car hire, eight nights 4* to 5* accommodation with breakfast in South Australia, five nights 3*+ accommodation in Sydney and the domestic flight between Adelaide and Sydney costs from £1,879 per person (based on two sharing).
