Newcastle identifies its favourite men's look of 2018

Newcastle identifies its favourite men's look of 2018: Image 1

Newcastle grooms about to choose their wedding suit should take a look at this research from online jewellery retailer William May, who polled 2,000 women to find out which 2018 men's style they prefer.

Top pick for Newcastle women was the 'Americana' style; the typical guy wearing this will look like a Deep South dreamboat, clad in any or all of the following: a shearling jacket, indigo denim shirt, or Chelsea boot, and while he may not be able to actually saddle a horse, he'll be able to make a damn fine saddle of lamb!

In second place came the 'Smart and Sporty' look – this guy is basically dressed for any occasion, and mixes his tailored suit-y look with a dash of sports luxe.

In bronze position was the 'Future Commuter' look – he'll be wearing the latest tech accessories, like an Apple watch or fitbit, teamed with modern fabrics, usually layered…

There were a couple of more, shall we say, interesting looks… the 'Logo Lad' came sixth. He's likely to be wearing branded trainers (probably by Yeezy), big, bright slogan t-shirts and tracksuits, and doesn't mind some throwback to 90s nostalgia (remember Kappa, ladies?).

Another was 'Scumbro'. This guy is making badly dressed look 'cool' in baggy trousers, graphic shirts and bolshie caps. Most of what he is wearing costs more than your car, and he probably takes inspiration from Justin Bieber's latest look. It costs a great deal to look so poor…

Least favourite it appears was 90s baby; basically, just think Liam Gallagher from Oasis. These dudes are stuck in a time-warp where shell suit jackets, parka coats and bucket hats are still a good look. And they know all the words to Wonderwall…

The styles ranked from most to least favourite are as follows:
1. Americana
2. Smart and Sporty
3. Future Commuter
4. Check Me Out!
5. Great Outdoors
6. Logo Lad
7. Scumbro
8. 90's Baby

William May also found that over half (54%) of British men judge other men – purely based on their choice of outfit!

It also found that men are less likely to be swayed by what's actually 'in fashion' at any given time; nearly half of them (44%) reveal they stick to one basic look that they've made their own, rather than adapt multiple different looks, according to trends, or even their mood.

Most men aren't that interested in letting their clothes do the talking, either; just a quarter say they would let their style reflect their personality. One fifth of British blokes think accessories are important, finding what watch they're wearing, for example, just as crucial as the actual outfit. And ten percent even own several different watches, so they can pair them according to what they're wearing.

When it comes to where they find their fashion inspo, 66% of men find theirs on social media, such as Instagram; 25% find it from TV or in magazines, and 9% look to other men.

But British women have their own opinions on what men wear, and 30% of them believe a too-low neckline (which was said to show off 'he-veage') is a massive fashion faux pas!

Twenty per cent of women hate when men pop their collar; 20% can't bear mismatching belts and shoes; 20% said that it was wearing the wrong socks with trousers; 5% when men wear suspenders with a belt; and 5% said the worst was when men didn't button up their suits properly.
