Fabulous Northumberland is a beautiful, wild place of fairy tale castles and romantic history; spellbinding scenery; beautiful beaches; and wonderful weddings! And if you happen to be considering a wedding here in 2019 or beyond, the absolute jewel in the crown is Alnwick Castle.
Magical Alnwick Castle – the famous seat of the legendary Percy family – and depicted as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films - knows a thing or two about lavish celebrations. This ancient medieval Castle, now home to the Percy family for over 700 years, has hosted royal and aristocratic occasions for centuries. What wonderful secrets its walls could tell?
One of the great advantages of a wedding here nowadays is that you can make it as grand and spectacular – or as simple, idyllic and rural – as you'd like, because the Castle has two exquisite wedding venues – the Guest Hall and Hulne Abbey - both completely different but both managed by the same super-experienced, wedding planning wizard Fiona!
Alnwick Castle is also renowned for its splendid food. In both of these lovely venues, the talented chefs can prepare any style of celebratory meal for you and your guests, from delicious formal wedding banquets to mouth-watering barbeques and buffets. The team are passionate about their food and always delighted to prepare bespoke menus.
The Castle sits high above the river with beautiful views across landscaped parkland. Its wonderful, historic Guest Hall presents a fabulous backdrop for any momentous occasion. With its carved stone archways and beamed roof, it offers magnificent surroundings for a marriage and can accommodate up to 200 guests for ceremonies and 160 for wedding breakfasts. Depending on the season, guests can mingle outside and enjoy the splendid surroundings of the Castle grounds.
For those looking for an idyllic, rustic, country wedding, beautiful Hulne Abbey - available from March to September - is an enchanting ruined abbey and lies on a hillside in Hulne Park, close to Alnwick. Surrounded by medieval walls and founded in the 13th century as a Carmelite monastery, Hulne Abbey is a wonderfully secluded spot for your marriage and very atmospheric. There's ample space for a marquee or rustic tipi for up to 500 here – with dancing all night if you wish!
Happy couples can mix their day between each location if they wish. You can arrange a ceremony in Hulne Abbey, followed by a reception and dancing in the Guest Hall. Or you could be married in the majestic Guest Hall, with a wonderful marquee or tipi celebration at lovely Hulne Park. Endless wedding styles are possible here, themed weddings are a speciality, and no two celebrations are ever the same.
From a spectacular marriage in the Castle - or a fun, Harry Potter-themed wedding complete with broomsticks - to an exquisite ceremony within the ancient, atmospheric Hulne Abbey - the choice is yours!
