Planning a Hen Do? Here are 6 ways to do it on a budget
With wedding traditions dying fast, modern couples are truly setting the bar for what's...
The team at Northumberland's only castle hotel, Langley Castle in Langley-on-Tyne, are on the lookout for what they are calling the “mystery proposer”at their very first Wedding Open Day, to be held on Sunday, January 27 2019.
Langley's new executive general manager, Margaret Livingstone-Evans, a specialist in laying on exquisite weddings, says there is always someone in the room at any event like this, who has tagged along with a couple planning a wedding, accompanied by their own partner.
To identify the mystery proposer or proposers at the Langley Wedding Open Day, the castle is offering a 15 per cent discount to anyone who goes down on one knee, proposes on the day and books their wedding there and then.
Other already engaged couples wowed by Langley, who also book their wedding on the day, will be offered a 10 per cent reduction off the cost. The respective discounts apply if the deposit is then paid within seven days.
The mystery proposer will have a hard time resisting the urge to propose, as they tour Langley's incredible 14th century castle building, complete with sparkling chandeliers, four-poster beds, incredibly romantic window seats set into seven-feet-thick walls and numerous luxury touches.
With 2019 wedding trends focused on chrome, gold and other metals, as well as greenery and mirrors, there is no more perfect wedding venue than Langley this year, which has all of these components in its newly refurbished wedding suite.
This will be decorated as if hosting a wedding, to inspire, spark the imagination and tease out that all-important proposal. With the castle wedding being the in-vogue wedding, following Meghan and Harry's nuptials and those of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, both held in historic castles, Langley is expecting to see many couples at its new-format Wedding Open Day.
The majority of those likely to be considering its exclusive-use package that gives them the whole of the castle for a day or weekend, at an incredibly irresistible price. The interest in its Game of Thrones-style weddings on social media, also suggests many GOT fans will be unable to resist taking a peek at the backdrop that could enable them to be Lannisters or Starks for the day or weekend.
Margaret Livingstone-Evans says: “We can't wait to welcome couples to our very first Wedding Open Day and to highlight all the on-trend facets that we have at Langley, in addition to our in-depth expertise in creating and delivering the dream wedding.
“We believe our search for the Mystery Proposer is a first for a wedding venue, but Langley likes to set trends rather than following them. We shall be on tenterhooks, awaiting a proposal.”

The Wedding Open Day takes place between 11am and 4pm on January 27.
