September/October 2022

I love how my job means I get to spend my days writing about all things wedding… but nothing actually beats being invited to one, to remind yourself of all the raw emotion that comes with two people committing their lives to one another. I was lucky enough to attend my cousin Jade’s nuptials in the Tees Valley back in July – and am not afraid to admit I shed a few tears on more than one occasion. There was the look of love in Jade’s eyes seeing his wife Simone walk up the aisle. There was the look of pride in Simone’s dad’s eyes as he walked her up the aisle. Then there was that fleeting look of sadness I spied in Jade’s mam’s eyes, at not having her husband by her side. We lost my Uncle Peter nearly eight years ago, and I know how much he would have boasted to anyone and everyone that would listen at what a wonderful daughter-in-law he’d been blessed with.

It just goes to show that tears are to be expected from many a guest at your wedding – so be prepared and have plenty of tissues for friends and family at the ready!

Emotions to one side, there are plenty of other aspects you’ll need to consider when it comes to planning the best day of your lives. Looking for a wedding outfit that’s different from the norm? Turn to our Q&A on page 59, for essential advice on choosing an alternative gown for your own celebration. Also this issue, I’ve been busy searching for the best fashion and grooming experts in your area to get you ready for the most photographed day of your lives (p45), while over on page 49 you’ve the best blooms to choose from for spring, summer, autumn and winter. It might sound obvious, but by picking homegrown flowers in season you’ll save money and reduce your carbon footprint in the process! That’s more money to pop behind the bar, which I’m sure all your guests will appreciate…

Happy wedding planning – see you in November

Acklam Hall

Originally built in 1683 by Sir William Hustler, Acklam Hall is the only Grade I listed historic building in the area. Fully refurbished by a team of craftsmen and conservators in 2015, outside Acklam boasts a private courtyard and boutique grounds, with the venue’s Zen water garden sectioned for exclusive use for your guests, giving you the perfect location to enjoy refreshments before or after the ceremony – not to mention some amazing photo opportunities.

There are two rooms available for ceremonies, depending on the size of your wedding. Downstairs you’ll find The Parlour, perfect for smaller intimate celebrations for up to 30 guests. Alternatively, wed upstairs in the Drawing Room, saying your vows while up to 120 of your friends and family are wowed by the ornate ceilings and original fireplaces. You can then host a reception back in the Parlour (30 capacity); The Boudoir (14 capacity) – an adjoining room immediately next to The Parlour that’s the perfect spot to entertain children whilst adults are dining; or The Drawing Room (120 capacity), a self-contained space with private bar and a dance floor for DJs or bands so you can party until late.

Get your feet wedding ready with the Exclusive Medical Pedicure by Margaret Dabbs

Get your feet wedding ready with the Exclusive Medical Pedicure by Margaret Dabbs

CWM editor Rachel Westall went along to Margaret Dabbs London to discover the benefits of The Exclusive Medical Pedicure... What a treat for the feet! As a working mum my feet work hard. Often wearing heels or sandals, exposing my feet to the elements I suffer with dry heels and skin build up on the balls of my feet. So, when the opportunity came to try out a medical pedicure at Margaret Dabbs, I jumped at the chance. It's a giant leap further than your standard pedi. To explain a bit further, think hygienist for the feet and foot facialist all in one. The famous medical pedicure or medi-pedi, as I like to call it, is a thorough overhaul performed on the feet, by a qualified HCPC registered Podiatrist.
