Something about the season screams romance; maybe it’s the darker nights, the cosy atmosphere or the falling snow. Either way, it’s the perfect time of year for weddings with glamorous, rustic and whimsical themes taking centre stage.

With so many fun colour schemes to pick from, including forest green and berry, indigo and orchid or light blue and white; couples can get creative when it comes to planning their dream aesthetic.

The Bowes Museum

Located in the heart of Teesdale, The Bowes Museum is a hidden gem with a selection of beautiful, elegant and opulent rooms. The French chateau-style building was built from local stone and opened to the public in 1892. Fast forward to now, the property hosts all sorts of weddings from traditional to quirky, formal and informal days.

The museum’s wedding coordinators help couples throughout the planning experience from their first inquiry, right through to waving them off at the end of the night. To ensure pairs receive total attention, the team only holds one wedding per day to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Guests will fall in love with the venue as soon as they enter the stone entrance hall and see the sweeping staircase that leads to the spectacular picture galleries and ceremony spaces.

The Music Room can hold a maximum capacity of 64 guests for the “I dos” and showcases a collection of musical instruments and paintings. Alternatively, the Jubilee Room can fit 100 people and provides panoramic views of the surrounding area.

For larger celebrations, the magnificent 19th-century Picture Gallery can accommodate 200 partygoers with an unrivalled collection of paintings from around the world.

Continue the celebrations in either the Entrance Hall or Café Bowes with a maximum of 120 guests.

Five tips on how to ensure your caterer is acting sustainably

Five tips on how to ensure your caterer is acting sustainably

A typical British wedding produces one third of a metric tonne of solid waste and 14.5 tons of carbon dioxide in one day. To put that into perspective, annual carbon emissions per capita in the UK are around 9.1 tonnes. A large percentage of the waste comes from catering. In fact, an average of £488 worth of food is wasted at every wedding. There is a pressing need for change in how we approach weddings, keeping them fun, beautiful and memorable yet responsible.

Fortunately, more people today are turning to sustainable options, and this trend is here to stay.
Aiming to have a sustainable wedding catering experience does not mean sacrificing luxury and quality – it means catering wisely and creatively. You do not need to forfeit your personal taste and unique preferences when envisioning an environmentally conscious wedding.
Tania Burton, the founder of a sustainable, family-run luxury wedding and event catering business Ginger Snap (https://www.ginger-snap.co.uk/), shares 5 ways to ensure your wedding catering is delicious and beautifully presented without harming the environment:
