May/June 2021

Hello lovely readers and welcome to another issue of Your North East Wedding. Firstly, I want to say congratulations on your engagement! In this magazine, you’ll find plenty of top tips, advice and wedding inspiration to make the planning experience more straightforward – we know how overwhelming this process can be without any guidance.

It’s no secret that summer is a time of year perfect for weddings with colourful seasonal flowers and more daylight for those all-important photos. Al fresco ceremonies and receptions are popular this time of year because more outdoor space can be utilised – just picture your guests playing lawn games or having cocktails while soaking up the sun and enjoying clear skies!

If you’re at the start of your wedding journey, you’re in for a treat as we’ve searched high and low to find beautiful waterside and coastal venues – what could be more romantic than saying ‘I do’ with a river backdrop or on the beach with crashing waves and the ocean breeze?

Healey Barn

Healey Barn was converted by Cripps & Co in 2015 to create a luxury wedding venue while retaining the charm and history of the original building. Located in the tranquil countryside near Corbridge in Tyne Valley and less than 20 minutes from the centre of Newcastle, the location is perfect for travelling guests.

Ceremonies are conducted in the Long Barn with a capacity of 144 guests; candles, fairylights and an open fire add to the romantic and enchanting atmosphere. This space can then be transformed into a drinks reception area and dancefloor after the ceremony.

Leading through from the barn, the dining room provides the perfect space for the wedding breakfast and loved ones can take in the spectacular views whilst eating some fabulous food. At the end of the dining room is a copper-clad bar with a glass-folding door opening onto a small terrace and garden.

Sheltered from the wind by the barn building on all sides, the sunfilled courtyard provides a large additional space for post-ceremony drinks and an excellent location for wedding photographs. There are two giant oak planters with seats around them, six umbrella-topped trees, various benches, cosy suntraps and planted troughs and borders. There’s an open-sided building with garden furniture which provides a covered outside area and the venue’s pizza oven. Lanterns, firepits and fairylights in the trees light up the space in the evening.

Located one mile away from the venue, Healey Hall and its adjoining cottages can accommodate 34 guests in 17 beautifully interior designed rooms.

When couples book the venue they’re offered regular Feast Nights for couples to sample a range of popular dishes.

Retreat to the city at The Marylebone, London

As the country prepared for Lockdown Part II, my husband and I managed to sneak in a last-minute escape to the city to enjoy a much-needed retreat at The Marylebone. Nestled in the hotel's super-trendy namesake neighbourhood, between the Georgian Welbeck Street and the part-pedestrianised Marylebone Lane, you're just a short walk from London's most famous Monopoly locations, from Bond Street to Mayfair.
