May/June 2020

We’re well and truly into 2020 now and although it’s been a shaky start so far with the outbreak of the coronavirus, I’ve been buoyed by the ‘keep calm and carry on’ nature of our wonderful wedding industry. At the time of writing, precautionary measures have taken place, however, the show must go on, and like all adversity, ‘this too shall pass.’ So, in that vein, let’s look to a bright future and keep planning your special occasion!

Luckily, the weather is turning, and spring is hands down my favourite time of year – maybe it’s because of the sunshine, the beautiful flowers in bloom or the longer evenings – either way, I’m so excited!

This is an exciting issue and it definitely won’t disappoint! If you’re looking to plan the perfect wedding, then make sure to keep reading because we have some great features lined up. Our hot topic feature will help with any big day issues from transport to photography questions – our experts are here to help you. Don’t miss out on our music and entertainment feature, where you can discover different suppliers to keep guests having fun all day long. Alternatively, why not check out the jewellery and accessories pages, where you can learn how to add the finishing touches to any look?

This fast-paced industry always has something exciting waiting around the corner, which is why the nearlywed news feature is ideal to catch up on all the latest from around the region. We have also scouted the area for some of the best venues throughout the North East, and I’m personally loving the coastal and waterside setting feature, what’s more romantic than saying ‘I do’ with waves crashing in the background?

That’s all from me, now sit back, relax and celebrate anything and everything wedding!

Healey Barn

Located in the tranquil countryside near Corbridge in the Tyne Valley, Healey Barn is less than 20 minutes from the centre of Newcastle and offers beautiful open views across the surrounding landscape. Back in 2015, the premises was converted by Cripps & Co to make it the luxury wedding venue it is today. Keeping the charm and history of the original building was important; the long barn has an impressive raised cruck roof, three giant candelabra, wall-mounted candle holders, a canopy of fairylights woven into its oak ceiling and an open fireplace. Together these create an enchanting and romantic atmosphere.

Sheltered from the wind by barn buildings on all sides, the sun-filled courtyard provides a large additional space for post-ceremony drinks and an excellent location for wedding photographs. There are two giant oak planters with seats around them, six umbrella-topped trees, various benches, cosy sun traps and planted troughs and borders. There’s an open-sided building with garden furniture, which provides a covered outside area and houses the pizza oven. The courtyard is transformed at night with lanterns, firepits and fairy-lit trees.

Ceremonies are conducted in the long barn with a capacity of 144, this area then gets transformed into a drink’s reception area and dancefloor afterwards. Leading through from the barn, the dining room provides the perfect space for the wedding breakfast – take in the spectacular views whilst dining on fabulous food. The barn offers regular Feast Nights for couples to sample a range of the most popular dishes.

Located one mile away from the venue, Healey Hall and its adjoining cottages can accommodate up to 34 guests in 17 beautifully interior designed rooms.
