May/June 2019

Planning your wedding is, without a doubt, one of the most exciting times of your life. It’s also one of the most stressful. Arguments over spiralling budgets and agonising over your guest list were never going to be easy, so be sure to take some time out from all those spreadsheets to remember why you’re saying “I do” in the first place. Try to give yourself one night a week away from the W-word – even if it’s something as simple as a glass of red while binge-watching the latest TV shows on Netflix.

Once your stress levels begin to normalise, you can then get on with organising your big day – with a little help from our team at Your North East Wedding! Choose a Northumberland venue that’s perfect for the pair of you on page 15 – or why not opt to say your vows by the water’s edge (p21)?

You’ll also need some music and entertainment to keep your guests happy throughout the day, so we’ve gone all out to source the best local talent worth hiring. From singers and DJs to casinos and caricaturists, turn to page 51 to find out more. You can even win the services of Durham wedding pianist Lee Mathews (p13), who’s played for Madonna and Stevie Wonder. And don’t forget to enter our fantastic competition to win a £5,000 dream honeymoon to Cyprus, on p103!

Enjoy planning the best day of your lives…

Bamburgh Castle

One of the most iconic landmarks in Northumberland, Bamburgh Castle is steeped in history, being home to the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong. The King’s Hall has an intricate beamed ceiling with a fine art collection and is crowned by light from soaring windows. Then there’s the Keep, which features a vaulted ceiling and dates back to Norman times. The Castle also offers breathtaking views overlooking the Northumberland coastline, including the Farne Islands and with Lindisfarne in the distance.

The King’s Hall is full of grandeur and makes a stunning venue for a ceremony of up to 150. Designed by Lord Armstrong, it comes complete with fine art, a false hammer beam ceiling and Minstrels’ Gallery. The Keep is another space to say your vows in – dating back to the 12th-century, you can say “I do” in front of 40 guests. Battery Terrace seats up to 80 and overlooks the Farne Islands and Holy Island, while brand new for 2019 is the option to marry on Bamburgh Beach. If you want to experience a ceremony with the sand between your toes, then this is the location for you.
