May/June 2020

We’re well and truly into 2020 now and although it’s been a shaky start so far with the outbreak of the coronavirus, I’ve been buoyed by the ‘keep calm and carry on’ nature of our wonderful wedding industry. At the time of writing, precautionary measures have taken place, however, the show must go on, and like all adversity, ‘this too shall pass.’ So, in that vein, let’s look to a bright future and keep planning your special occasion!

Luckily, the weather is turning, and spring is hands down my favourite time of year – maybe it’s because of the sunshine, the beautiful flowers in bloom or the longer evenings – either way, I’m so excited!

This is an exciting issue and it definitely won’t disappoint! If you’re looking to plan the perfect wedding, then make sure to keep reading because we have some great features lined up. Our hot topic feature will help with any big day issues from transport to photography questions – our experts are here to help you. Don’t miss out on our music and entertainment feature, where you can discover different suppliers to keep guests having fun all day long. Alternatively, why not check out the jewellery and accessories pages, where you can learn how to add the finishing touches to any look?

This fast-paced industry always has something exciting waiting around the corner, which is why the nearlywed news feature is ideal to catch up on all the latest from around the region. We have also scouted the area for some of the best venues throughout the North East, and I’m personally loving the coastal and waterside setting feature, what’s more romantic than saying ‘I do’ with waves crashing in the background?

That’s all from me, now sit back, relax and celebrate anything and everything wedding!

Newton Hall

Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with miles of unspoilt, quiet beaches, romantic sandy dunes, a magnificent coastal panorama and the ruins of 14th-century Dunstanburgh Castle in the background, Newton Hall’s exceptional position is nothing short of breathtaking.

This 18th-century Georgian mansion by the sea is full of quirky character and has a romantic ambience. Ceremonies take place at different locations depending on what couples desire. The Enchanted Chapel is truly enchanting; the plants and vines that kept it hidden for so long have been cut back to create the indoor garden, adjacent to the altar is a stunning waterfall, which cascades down ancient rocks. As part of the renovation, enormous floorto- ceiling glass doors have been added and when opened, it will make the chapel and water one. Why not opt for the terrace with a fireplace and retractable roof for 100 loved ones or the Wedding Hill, which is the ultimate location with 360-degree views and a loving country vibe for 180 guests to enjoy.

Lastly, the hall itself is fantastic for 30 members of friends and family. This space is the romantic heart of the estate, its historic splendour combined with a bold and romantic interior makes the space a perfect choice for an enchanted wedding and boasts original features enhanced with a special boutique twist. The wedding breakfast and evening receptions take place in the spectacular Garden Suite, the vast windows open onto the luxury outdoor wedding terrace, gardens and spectacular views. The contemporary Garden Suite and the grand luxury wedding terrace are built on the footings of the hall’s original orangery, making the venue one of the largest wedding venues in Northumberland and the North East. The room seats 150 guests for a daytime wedding reception and can hold up to 250 for an evening reception. For smaller more intimate weddings the main hall provides the perfect setting for a breakfast party.

New for 2020 is a beautiful chapel recently discovered within the original glasshouse – a wedding setting quite unlike any other. Adjacent to the altar is a stunning waterfall which cascades down ancient rocks.

When lovebirds book the venue, they’ll receive a complimentary wedding taster choosing to have a three-course wedding breakfast as well as the bridal suite for the bride and groom on the night of their wedding. On top of all that they’ll also get a discounted one-year anniversary stay with dinner, bed and breakfast at Newton Hall’s sister venue The Joiners Arms along with cocktails on arrival and chocolates and prosecco in the room to enjoy.
