I can’t believe how quickly time flies – I’ve been the Editor on Your North East Wedding for nearly three years! Since starting I’ve seen a huge surge in the trend for a more relaxed celebration, with many couples opting for festival-style affairs, complete with street food and glamping under the stars. If that’s your idea of wedding heaven make sure you turn to our freebies spread on page 13, where we’ve got a two-night glamping experience – and an exclusive pizza catering discount – up for grabs.
I’ve also been busy on the wedding venue hunt, scouring the North East for the very best places to say, “I do”. Turn to page 15 for the best hotels and venues that Durham has to offer, or head straight to page 21 for historical locations with a sensational past. All that plus our pick of the best wedding transport (p27), ways to dress your venue (p55), and three reader weddings, for all of you inquisitive brides and grooms who like to see how other couples celebrated their big day.
It’s time for me to sign off – my time as Editor on Your North East Wedding has come to an end. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading the issues as much as I’ve enjoyed putting them together.
Enjoy planning the best day of your lives … | |

Durham dream |

Durham castle
Set in the heart of Durham City, and part of a World Heritage Site, Durham Castle’s historic atmosphere is ideally suited to weddings, ensuring your special day is a truly memorable occasion. The historic grandeur of the Great Hall, one of the largest and most impressive of its kind in the country, is perfect for your wedding breakfast. Then there’s the Castle Courtyard; against the backdrop of the Castle and Cathedral it features the many coats of arms of successive Bishops. With history in every direction, it’s the perfect venue for a drinks reception and some stunning photography!
Outside ceremonies for up to 100 are held in the Fellows Garden, while you can also marry indoors in the Norman Gallery (120 guests), or the Bishop’s Dining Room (50 guests). Your friends and family can then enjoy a reception in The Great Hall or Bishop’s Dining Room, before the bride and groom take advantage of a complimentary overnight stay in the Bishop Suite.
