Duns Castle

If couples are looking for a fairytale venue, look no further than Duns Castle! Bursting full of history, this imposing and Gothic-style space features breathtaking interiors and many photographic opportunities.

Surrounded by park and woodland, guests can walk for hours among the beautiful trees while seeing glimpses of the shy deer that live there, and the lake with a heron island. Or climb the Duns Law to the prehistoric Roman and Elizabethan fort site and look across the valley to the Cheviot Hills. Here couples can get a bird’s-eye view of the little country town with church steeples and farmland.

Ceremonies take place in The Wedding Room for 60 guests, this is the cathedral-style main Drawing Room with huge windows overlooking the lawns and lake. The 18th-century mirror reflects the aisle set-up for the ‘I dos’ or the comfortable sofas and chairs after the vows when the room gets transformed back into a cosy sitting room.

Duns Castle boasts many historic features such as turrets, castellations, a huge fireplace with carved griffins and an ornate ceiling in the main dining room which has always been The Great Hall of the castle for 700 years.

Exchange vows at St Mary’s Heritage Centre in Gateshead

Formally a Medieval church, St Mary's Heritage Centre is fully restored to showcase the original beauty of the stonework and pillars with a blend of modern improvements. Surrounding the building is a Grade I listed graveyard featuring ornate and ancient gravestones and a beautiful war memorial garden. This impressive structure features an illuminated clock face on the bell tower and Norman stoned mullioned windows – the entrance archways draw guests in with the striking walls of plate glass. As the quayside comes to life at night and the bridge across the Tyne gets illuminated, St Mary's Heritage Centre offers a spectacular vantage point to absorb the atmosphere.
