November/December 2022

November/December 2022

Is it me, or does it only seem like yesterday that we were ringing in 2022? Suddenly the nights have well and truly drawn in and the heating is very much switched on – and with it there goes a huge portion of your wedding budget.

Energy bill jokes aside, I, for one, love this time of year. OK, so you can no longer enjoy a beer garden afternoon with your mates, but instead you get to snuggle together with your intended on the sofa, glass of red in hand, talking of your hopes and dreams for the future. And, if you’re reading this, that means your current hopes and dreams are all things wedding – so let’s get cracking with planning the best day of your lives!

Starting on page 15, we’ve six pages of gorgeous North East wedding venues for you to discover, from County Durham’s finest, to hotels where you can say your vows before bedding down for the night. Next, head over to page 45 for all your wedding transport needs, before flicking to our regional spread on wedding fashion suppliers you’ve simply got to approach for your big day (p57).

Finally, speaking of big days, I can’t sign off until I’ve mentioned my cousin Jade’s wedding to his wife Simone, which you can read about in all its glory over on page 32. See if you can spot me laughing with my husband and the groom with my multitude of tiny chins – I should have kept my guard well and truly up knowing the photographers were on the prowl!

Happy wedding planning – see you in 2023…

Langley Castle Hotel

Built in 1350, during the reign of Edward III, the castle has retained its architectural integrity and is now regarded as one of the few medieval fortified castle hotels in England. Over the past 600 years, the Castle has been owned, together with its estate, by lords and ladies whose names were frequently associated with the turbulent history of the Kingdom! Now the ideal castle wedding venue for your perfect fairy tale marriage, its medieval grandeur opens up limitless options.

Ceremonies are held in either the Josephine Room (70 guests), the Stuart Suite (100 guests), the Woodland Wedding area (100 guests) or the Bandstand (60 guests), before you enjoy a reception in either the Stuart Suite (120 guests) or the Pavilion Suite (30 guests). Langley’s 10-acre woodland estate, complete with water fountain and roaming peacocks, offers a host of photographic opportunities, while the estate is able to cater to any wedding requirements, from woodland and traditional white weddings to tipi and Game of Thrones-themed affairs.

Engaged couples searching for somewhere to tie the knot should consider Newcastle's Great North Hotel, which opened its doors to the public last year following a £7.5m development. Now welcoming weddings, it boasts a purpose-built function suite and three packages designed to relieve couples of all the pressure of planning. Central to the hotel's appeal for wedding parties is its Ouseburn Suite, with private bar, which can cater for between 25 and 80 guests and can be sub-divided to create a smaller space for more intimate celebrations.
