July/August 2020

What a surreal time we’re all facing right now – if someone would have told us at the start of the year that we would be in this predicament, I wouldn’t have believed them. Though I hate to mention the dreaded C-word, it’s important to highlight how incredible the wedding industry has been throughout this all. The positivity I’ve seen from you all and suppliers even in the hardest times has been amazing and I couldn’t be prouder of us all.

The tide is turning with hope for the future and for those planning your wedding, the show must go on. This issue is packed full of beautiful big-day inspiration, top expert advice and talented suppliers who could be perfect for your special day.

Make sure to check out our photography feature where you’ll find picture perfect shots, and find inspiration on how to transform any space with our venue styling feature.

We’ve also scoured the area for some of the best venues throughout the North East, so if you’re at the beginning of your wedding journey make sure to check it out.

That’s all from me, now sit back, relax

Rockliffe Hall

Rockliffe Hall is a five red star hotel, golf and spa resort set within 375 acres of a beautiful woodland estate on the banks of the River Tees, just outside the pretty village of Hurworth-on-Tees. This venue is one of the UK’s most beautiful sites at which to celebrate a wedding with a string of accolades to its name including VisitEngland’s Large Hotel of the Year and Pride of Britain’s Hotel of the Year.

From popping the question to the engagement party, hens, stags and the big day itself, Rockliffe Hall’s experienced events team will be with couples every step of the way to help and plan.

Choose from the range of different function rooms, indulge in the three different restaurants – The Orangery features in the Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants – relax in the award-winning spa, which was refurbished in 2019, and maybe even take to the PG Aaccredited golf course.

Whether couples want a contemporary or traditional wedding, Rockliffe Hall appreciates every wedding is different and only holds one per day.

Couples are spoilt for choice of multiple spaces for the special day. The Rockliffe Suite is the resort’s largest room, offering plenty of natural daylight and elegance, which is perfect for a ceremony and reception space for 170 guests. The room can be split into two smaller areas if required, and a beautiful outdoor terrace leads to landscaped gardens. Drinks receptions are held in the adjoining private lounge, terrace and gardens.

The Orangery sits in the heart of the Old Hall and is excellent for ceremonies of up to 120 loved ones. This Victorian, lovingly restored area features high-ceilings and stunning views. This space has a jaw-dropping effect on everyone who walks in – swathed in natural light by day and romantic candlelight by night, once couples see it, they’ll have to get married there. For a more intimate wedding, The Morning Room is located in the Old Hall and boasts many traditional features and jaw-dropping views – perfect for ceremonies (65) and receptions (50). Room hire for The Morning Room and Drawing Room are included as part of the Old Hall exclusive packages.

Or, why not opt for The Old Hall Arches, which features magnificent marble arches and provides a glamorous and gothic setting for civil ceremonies and receptions for 80 people? Beautiful lighting and traditional architectural features will wow guests as couples walk down the stunning staircase into this elegant room.

On the day of the wedding, guests will enjoy a seasonal cocktail or glass of sparkling wine that’s served on arrival, three-course wedding breakfast with house wine followed by tea, coffee and petit fours and a glass of sparkling wine to toast the happy couple.

In the North East, we're so spoilt for the number of wedding venues available, and many are a blank canvas, such as a barn, village hall, marquee, garden or wooded areas. It may be daunting to choose a blank canvas for your big day, but it will allow you to design a space that hasn't been created before.
