March/April 2019

There’s no doubt that winter’s a magical time to tie the knot, but I can’t help but feel excited that a new season’s just around the corner. There’s something to be said for the many merits of spring, from picking your bouquet blooms to match what’s newly available to styling your venue with fresh and vibrant colours that complement the changing weather. That’s why this issue features an exclusive guide to the very best ways to dress your chosen venue, be it a castle, city centre hotel, barn or even by the beach. Turn to page 55 to read our expert advice on what works well and why.

Elsewhere this issue, we’re jam-packed with everything a North East bride and groom need to know when it comes to saying “I do.” We’ve news on the latest wedding packages, venues and suppliers in our Nearlywed News spread on page 9, including an exclusive discount with a Durham pianist who’s performed for the Royal Family! There’s a feature dedicated to the best wedding transport in the region, from horse and carriage to Campervan or supercar (p49), and we showcase 12 pages dedicated to stunning reader weddings, starting on page 29. And don’t forget to enter in our amazing competitions – you could win a bed and breakfast stay at Jurys Inn Middlesbrough, complete with dinner (p13), and a honeymoon in Malaysia, worth nearly £4,000 (p103)!

Enjoy planning the best day of your lives…

Eshott Hall

This perfectly proportioned Georgian country house is an absolute gem, with the beautiful, well-established wisteria being a showstopper for early summer weddings. Its mellow, honey-coloured stone and exquisite architectural detailing make this an especially photogenic venue to choose for your wedding celebrations. Outside, you’ll find striped lawns, an extensive kitchen garden, tennis courts, Victorian fernery and grounds with a fine selection of specimen trees and acres of ancient woodland beyond.

The Hallway at Eshott is licensed for civil ceremonies and partnerships, accommodating up to 50 people. In addition, the restored Victorian Fernery area and gazebo (100 guests) is also licensed, or there’s the quirky, whimsical woodland wedding area (100 guests), complete with handmade wooden seating that gives a charming rustic vibe to your day. During the winter months, the Village Reading Room, once a Methodist Chapel, also provides a befitting venue to tie the knot. A short stroll away from the venue, it’s licensed for up to 80 guests.

Once you’ve tied the knot, it’s then time to celebrate, choosing either the elegant Ballroom, the Library or the Drawing Room to party the day and night away.
