I couldn’t help but feel teary writing about the stunning Woodhill Hall wedding of Charlotte and Chris, which you can read about in all its glory on p36. Yes, the bride and groom looked incredible, and sure, their big day was like a real-life fairytale. But the emotions I felt were all down to the circumstances that saw them planning their wedding in under seven weeks.

Charlotte’s mam, Janice, was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer – and the couple were adamant nothing was going to stop her seeing the bride and groom wed. This amazing feat of superquick planning was all down to their friends and family pitching in, and the result, as you can see for yourself, was outstanding.

What I’m trying to get at is that, at the end of the day, your wedding is all about capturing the moments that truly matter – tying the knot with your soulmate while surrounded by the ones you love. Of course you want your day to look picture-perfect, from the moment you send out your invitations (p55), to watching your guests’ reactions as you walk down the aisle in that breathtaking dress (p63), but try to take a moment to appreciate why you’re getting married in the first place – and bask in the love and laughter you’ll no doubt feel throughout the day.

Happy planning…

The Vermont Hotel

Built at the same time as New York’s Rockefeller Centre and the Chrysler Building, The Vermont Hotel is an elegant wedding venue that wouldn’t look out of place in Manhattan. Rich with Art Deco features but refurbished to an impressive standard, you really can have the best of both worlds at this Newcastle city-centre location. The interior boasts marble floors, mirrored pillars, luxurious furnishings and crystal-dripped chandeliers, which add glittering accents to the dark and decadent colour palette.

There are three licensed function suites available for your wedding and reception: the Sky Lounge (80 guests), the Ballroom (220 guests) and the Gold Room (120 guests).
